echnical Assistance for IDAs in Arizona

Technical Assistance is critical to maintain the standards necessary to attract matching funds for IDAs and to assure the public that Individual Development Accounts programs are well managed.

Assets for Arizona Institute provides a full range of technical assistance services to the industry in Arizona as well as direct technical assistance to qualifying non-profit 501 (c)(3) organizations and employers interested in starting and sustaining Individual Development Accounts programs. The Institute provides:

  • Instruction in the theory and practice of IDA management.
  • Sample program guidelines and forms written to standards in the industry and consistent with current private (foundations and employers) and federal match funding for IDAs (Federal Home Loan Bank and Assets for Independence IDA Demonstration Program).F
  • Fee-waived savings accounts for IDA participants at Wells Fargo Bank and/or National Bank of Arizona.
  • Training for financial institutions to offer IDA savings accounts.
  • Training for IDA program staff of qualifying non-profit organizations.
  • An AmeriCorps*VISTA member placement to supplement local staffing, for qualifying non-profit organizations.
  • Financial training curricula suggestions for non-profit program managers, volunteers and employers interested in IDAs as a worker benefit.
  • Centralized management information systems for IDA Accounts.
  • Training in how to raise, attract or budget match funds.
  • A collaborative structure for joint applications for federal match dollars.
  • Conferences, workshops and training opportunities for IDA program managers, staff, AmeriCorps*VISTAs and volunteers.
  • Email list serves and other electronic technical assistance.
  • Access to web-based information on Arizona IDAs (www.assetsaz.org)
  • Research opportunities for those interested in the data collected through participating program operators.
  • Joint evaluation studies on the impact of IDAs on the lives of low and moderate income families who have purchased assets.
  • Assistance on business plans for innovative asset-building programs and strategies to expand IDAs, sustain them in the marketplace and take them to a larger scale in the state of Arizona.
